"The Downtown" - Las Vegas

Well, The downtown is a small, dim lounge located in downtown Las Vegas. Gina, myself and 2 good friends of ours ended up going here around 9:30 on Saturday. First let me note that one of our friends had a previous encounter with the entrance of the place. Its all windows and very dark, They have curtains on the inside of the windows giving it a mirror-like effect. The door has no handle whatsever, you have to get your fingers inbetween the door and the wall(rather wacky I must say).
So during dinner we discussed and pondered a plan for entry. The girls would be the guinea pigs and attempt the opening of the door.

Well, the time had come and we were walking up to the entrance and low and behold there was 2 girls doing what seemed to be a mime-like(stuck in a box)motions, feeling for a door on the windows/mirrors. Very hilarious I must add. So, I point out the door and we entered.

It's very dark with red and black walls, black chairs and tables and red candles. The staff was friendly. Our waitress pitched some odd drinks to the girls in our group. The bathrooms were one of the oddest I've seen in vegas. With 2 way mirrors in the stall and mirrored walls. I actually ran into the wall at one point. Sinks were concrete.

The music was trip hop, deep house, lounge house and some "pure moods" type stuff. It was actually chiil and made for a great conversational banter. Around 9:45 the DJ showed up. Douglas Gibbs. I've seen/met him before and chatted through email with him. He's from Brooklyn NY. He began around 10. Playing some good tunes, I heard a stevie wonder remix, some 70's funk/soul and some deep house. Selection was very good.

The DJ booth is in a wall, with a hole cut to see the DJ. The booth contained 2 Technics 1200, 2 CDJ 1000's and a allen and heath x-zone 92 mixer. Sound was good.

I highly recommend visiting this place. Also a plus, you can see out the windows at people trying to get in the place which adds to the place, too funny.
