Current "Jammin' 2une"

I've been jammin to a deep house tune within the past few weeks. I find myself quite often coming back to this track. Therefore, I will include it on my next mix.

Samantha James - Rise(johnny Fiasco mix)

"The Downtown" - Las Vegas

Well, The downtown is a small, dim lounge located in downtown Las Vegas. Gina, myself and 2 good friends of ours ended up going here around 9:30 on Saturday. First let me note that one of our friends had a previous encounter with the entrance of the place. Its all windows and very dark, They have curtains on the inside of the windows giving it a mirror-like effect. The door has no handle whatsever, you have to get your fingers inbetween the door and the wall(rather wacky I must say).
So during dinner we discussed and pondered a plan for entry. The girls would be the guinea pigs and attempt the opening of the door.

Well, the time had come and we were walking up to the entrance and low and behold there was 2 girls doing what seemed to be a mime-like(stuck in a box)motions, feeling for a door on the windows/mirrors. Very hilarious I must add. So, I point out the door and we entered.

It's very dark with red and black walls, black chairs and tables and red candles. The staff was friendly. Our waitress pitched some odd drinks to the girls in our group. The bathrooms were one of the oddest I've seen in vegas. With 2 way mirrors in the stall and mirrored walls. I actually ran into the wall at one point. Sinks were concrete.

The music was trip hop, deep house, lounge house and some "pure moods" type stuff. It was actually chiil and made for a great conversational banter. Around 9:45 the DJ showed up. Douglas Gibbs. I've seen/met him before and chatted through email with him. He's from Brooklyn NY. He began around 10. Playing some good tunes, I heard a stevie wonder remix, some 70's funk/soul and some deep house. Selection was very good.

The DJ booth is in a wall, with a hole cut to see the DJ. The booth contained 2 Technics 1200, 2 CDJ 1000's and a allen and heath x-zone 92 mixer. Sound was good.

I highly recommend visiting this place. Also a plus, you can see out the windows at people trying to get in the place which adds to the place, too funny.

Who's Engaged??? I'm Engaged!!!

I proposed to my girlfriend(now fiancee) Gina. I must say, for someone who pesters people with questions on a daily basis, I was quite nervous when the time came to present the ring to her.

I must say it, it ended up being a very natural thing. I got used to the high pitched squeling coming from her mouth rather quickly. But for real she is the best and I'm lucky to have her by my side. Once we get a good focused pic of the ring I'll post it up on here...

Love you G!

Later all,

DJ

What Is House Music?

House music is a style of Electronic dance music that was developed by dance club DJs in Chicago in the early to mid-1980s. House music is strongly influenced by elements of the late 1970s soul- and funk-infused dance music style of disco. House music takes disco's use of a prominent bass drum on every beat and developed a new style by mixing in a heavy electronic synthesizer bassline, electronic drums, electronic effects, funk and pop samples, and reverb or delay-enhanced vocals. For more info visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_music

I started spinning Trance music which is a cross between House and Techno with more synthesized melodies and longer breakdowns. Within the past year I've been diggin' more Funky house like explained in the description above. This house has a puriety to it, the best way I can describe it is by the mix that will be out within the next week: LVF vol. 1

Mix Available - Solar Summer Sessions Vol 1

This was a mix I completed for Summer 2007. The link can be found on this site @ the profile page(upper left side below "what will you find" section). Its a blend of tech house, progressive, electro and tribal. Be on the look out for Vol 2 this summer.

House music

Well, I've really been digging deep into the funky side of house music. I'm in the process of recording a mix titled “LVF Vol. 1” which will be released as soon as I tweak it a bit more. Sometimes my focus on detail can delay things slightly. The mix incorporates deep & funky bass lines with a unique instrumental sound. It's actually the cleanest mix I've created to date. What do I mean by cleanest? Well, I've spun all types of genres and this variation of house has a jazziness to it, it doesn’t sound like a typical electronic music assortment. You can find saxophones, trumpets and pianos throughout the mix. I'm so excited to get it circulating. For more info please contact me @ www.myspace.com/djlalka or djlalka23@gmail.com.
